The production values on my first youtube video were...below what I was hoping for. I used the camera’s auto settings and messed up some other settings, but did my best. So I went back to the drawing board and watched a lot of shit on how to make videos and bought the cheapest lights and boom stand for my mic I could find that’d suit this purpose, and made another go.
The sound, lighting & everything this time is WAY better. Editing is done but doing other stuff before posting to youtube. Oh, yeah I actually edited this time and had something resembling a script so I could plan out stuff as we were shooting so it’d edit together later.
One lil fun camera trick was a time lapse of the cheese melting in the toaster oven. My camera does this timelapse gimmick where it’ll save both a 4k movie and all the individual frames as high res images. BUT you have to do a lot of fiddlery with this gimmick with setting its parameters, then doing manual focus and exposure to lock those in so the individual frames in the timelapse clip look consistent. Thankfully I figured it out on the first try , and I can use one of the frames from the timelapse (the pic above) for my youtbue thumbnail.

My kickass toaster oven broils, toasts, defrosts, bakes, and has custom settings for pizza and bagels. I'm not sure what exactly the pizza setting does, but the bagel setting is like a semi-broil where the bottom heating element is on but at a lower level than the top one. So you put a bagel in with the cut side facing up and the cut side gets nice and toasty but the outside of the bagel doesn't get burned to death.
